Vertical distance: 1269 meters ascent, 1123 meters descent
Horizontal distance: 33,40 Kilometer
The final stage of the Gore-Tex® Transalpine-Run 2010 leads from Niederdorf in Puster Valley to the beautiful location of Sexten in the Dolomites. Before crossing the finish line in Sexten, there are again nearly 34 kilometers to run which are going to be quite intense due to a total altitude difference of more than 1200 meters. But the backdrop of this stage couldn’t be more beautiful and breathtaking, because with the Three Peaks, the symbol of the Dolomites, the field of participants will finish in truly inspiring surroundings!
Drink
What can I say - a beautiful day at the end of another great experience. The weather was perfect and the scenery was breathtaking - again. Just take a look at the pictures and enjoy.
"Drink" - this is the place to thank two of our sponsors, who went all the way with us this year. If you take into account, taht we had to drink roughly 8 litres of liquid every day, that's quite an amount. Our nutrition sponsor Peeroton provided us everything we needed, from mineral drinks, energy powder, recovery drings and beyond (BCAA's, gels, bars etc.). One thing I have to point out an recommend definetely further: liquid energy. It's quite a challenge to get all needed energy inside of your body during long days as we had at the TAR. Recommendation by Peeroton was to take mainly LIQUID energy, cauz it's difficult to chew and digest during the race. They provided us the Plus Kohlenhydratpulver (carb-powder), which we just mixed into our normal drinks. Wow. It worked 100% . Try it out, buy that stuff! If you don't know how to get it, let me know, I will help you! - and: Thanks, Andreas (and also thanks to Gerald for making the contact!)
The other great support was the finnish energy drink and lifestyle company Battery. We had the privilege to test-run a new product for them, which will hit the market in 2011. I can't write anything more specific about it here, as it is still "secret". Let's say it like that: "Battery-X" kept us really going. We mainly utilized it after the last food stop every stage and it gave us a real kick forward for the last 10k! Great stuff, cool stuff - and hopefully available soon also in Germany and other central european countries. Check out their webpabes or become their Facebook pal. They make pretty cool promos and activities via social media, believe me, it's fun! Sooo - thanks Heidi for the support so far. Looking forward to 2011!
Drank
Not necessary to write about the last stage too much, as mentioned. Let's talk about crossing the finish line... or maybe about Martin's and my talk while running down towards Sexten and the finish line. I asked Martin: "Next year again?!" - and his answer was "Yes". Ok, that was an easy discussion :-)
Well, crossing the finish line was just great - again. The whole setup and hospitality in Sexten was just great. The perfect weather did it's part, so we drank several beers with our "Team Polar Germany" mates Harald and Daniel, enjoyed delicious Pizza and cakes and had a hell of a time. The athmosphere in the finish area was thrilling - team after team came in, partied and enjoyed the achievement. As we were pretty fast again today, we witnessed several of our friend-teams coming in. Jumping up, running to the finishing areas, hugging them, high-fiving them, cheering with them. Just great. Some teams I would like to mention here - and I hope to see them again next year: Marika & Oliver from Team "SchmidtFit", Daniel & Harald from "Team Polar Germany", all the "Gore Merchi Runners", Gavin & Guy from "Team Israel", Chris and, and, and.....
Drunk
*hicks* drinking beer in the sun after a 8 day effort makes you - drunk, Correct. But smart me found the right time to stop the beer drinking at a certain stage, so it was not too rough for me. The rest of the story is easy to tell. Finisher party, receiving the one-and-only finisher shirt (which is handed out only to those teams, who completed ALL stages within the time limits) and a bit further partying. Then to bed and leaving back home soon...
Thanks Ruben & Martin for another great experience. An experience of friendship, nature, achievement, team spirit and fun. Ok. I will stop this now, before somebody starts crying...
Stay tuned, Janne
