another work-week is almost over and also the training-week is on schedule. I did already 60k this week, some more to come during the weekend. It's pretty tough right now, as I started my weight-reducing project this week. If there is one thing, I can improve and do better than last year: carrying less kilos over the Alps in this year. Of course, I am far away from being overweight, but I had around 90kg (being 1.95m tall) during the past couple of months. 88kg should be ok - that was my last year's weight for the race - but I decided to give it a try to go down to 85kg for the event, as I struggled last year in the light uphills and had to stop running too easily and had to walk instead. After I am done with my weight reduction project, I might look pretty skinny then - too slim most probably, but it's only for that time and then I can increase the weight again easily.
How do I do that - decreasing my weight 5kg within a pretty short period of time?! Well, it's all about the input and the output of the calories. Just create a clearly negative balance, that you consume more calories than you put in your mouth - et voilá: The weight goes down easily. Sounds easy - but especially when continueing the training with a pretty high volume, it's sometimes hard, because the body is just lacking some energy to perform as wished... but the speed doesn't play any role during the current period, it's all about long and easy runs, garnished with some intervalls and uphill sessions.
Most probably I will have reached my 85kg by mid of next week and then the RIGHT nutrition is needed to have the essentials available for the Transalpine Run. That's where our new sponsor comes on board!
PEEROTON - New Sponsor for "Team Polar Finland / Inov-8"!
I am proud to announce that we will be supported by the Austrian nutrition experts from PEEROTON this year! Peeroton is highly specialized in nutrition analysis and -advices, especially for sports purposes (Peeroton is also targeting the "everyday life", but their roots are in the sports. I am especially proud, as Peeroton is the nutrition supplier for the Austrian Ski Team since 7 years and a top brand in Austria. I am pretty sure, that we will hear about Peeroton soon all over Europe!
Peeroton offers innovative high quality products in the area of sports nutrition. The products are developed in accordance with the latest scientific findings. The product range by Peeroton supplies the competitive athlete, as well as the amateur with all important supplements.
The reason, why we were looking proactively for a new nutrition supplier are practical reasons. In a competition like the Gore-Tex Transalpine-Run, every athlete needs to take in a huge amount of calories during one stage - roughly 8000 kcals are needed. Everybody who has been competing himself knows, that it is pretty difficult - almost impossible - to properly chew anything, when your heartrate is hammering at +150 beats per minute. Many of the caloric bars, which would have a lot of energy to provide are just not possible to eat during the race, as the texture is too hard and sticky. Peeroton offers great stuff here, the POWERPACK - which is more like an easy to chew cake, than a sticky bar. Great stuff!
The other part of the nutrition requirements will be energy gels. Another challenge, but Peeroton will provide us the ENERGIZER - we will have always clean hands and enough power to go even harder! Last but not least, the drinking during long stages is key - the MINERAL-VITAMIN-DRINK will serve us perfectly, too.
Currently Martin and me are evaluating our nutrition habits together with the experts from Peeroton and we will get a precise and tailormade plan for the last weeks before the race and the perfectly personalized & matched nutrition for our big adventure. Looking forward to this great cooperation. Thanks to Gerald for making this great contact possible!
Rgds, Janne
